The four-story double arcade is Italy's oldest active shopping gallery. Its structure consists of two glass-vaulted arcades intersecting in an octagon covering the street connecting Piazza del Duomo to Piazza della Scala. Its roof has been acknowledged as an important reference on 19th-century iron-and-glass architecture.
